Annual Screenings
Annual Screenings
Each grade level is screened annually. Depending on the grade level, your student may be screened for height, weight, vision, hearing, blood pressure or scoliosis (curvature of the spine).
If any problems are discovered, a note will be sent home with your student. If you receive a note called a "referral," please make the appropriate appointment for your student. A vision referral is most common.
If you are looking for affordable health coverage, NJ Family Care provides a wide range of services for children under 19 and adults (19-64) including preventive screenings, regular check-ups, eyeglasses, dental, prescriptions, and mental health care. If you are interested, I recommend going to their website to review eligibility (link).
Ask me about the VSP Eyes of Hope gift certificate program, which covers a no-cost comprehensive eye exam and eyeglasses (if prescribed) for students who qualify. Program participation is only extended to school nurses who are active members of the National Association of School Nurses, and the gift certificates can only be redeemed at a local VSP network doctor's office (link).
